چکیده

The mechanical characterization of adipose tissues is important for various medical purposes, including plastic surgery and biomechanical applications, such as computational human body models the simulation surgical procedures or injury prediction, example, in evaluation vehicle crashworthiness. In this context, measurement subcutaneous tissue (SAT) visceral (VAT) properties relation to subject characteristics may be really relevant. aim work was properly characterize response patients with obesity. Then, data were exploited develop a reliable finite element model characterized by constitutive material that accounted nonlinear elasticity time dependence. Mechanical tests have been performed on both SAT VAT specimens, which harvested from severe obesity during standard laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy intervention. experimental campaign included indentation tests, permitted us obtain initial/final stiffnesses each specimen. Statistical results revealed higher statistical stiffness than VAT, an 1.65 (SD ± 0.29) N/30.30 20) N compared 1.29 0.30) N/21.00 16) N. Moreover, showed gender, BMI, age did not significantly affect stiffness. used identification parameters inserted model. Such mechanics can starting point future development more accurate and, general, optimization numerous applications.

Angiogenesis Associated With Visceral and Subcutaneous Adipose Tissue in Severe Human Obesity

OBJECTIVE The expansion of adipose tissue is linked to the development of its vasculature. However, the regulation of adipose tissue angiogenesis in humans has not been extensively studied. Our aim was to compare the angiogenesis associated with subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) and visceral adipose tissue (VAT) from the same obese patients in an in vivo model. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Adi...

Does measurement site for visceral and abdominal subcutaneous adipose tissue alter associations with the metabolic syndrome?

OBJECTIVE To determine whether the associations between visceral adipose tissue (VAT), abdominal subcutaneous adipose tissue (ASAT), and the metabolic syndrome are altered depending on measurement site for VAT and ASAT and the definition used to identify the metabolic syndrome. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Total VAT and ASAT volume was derived using approximately 37 contiguous computed tomogra...

Distribution of Abdominal Visceral and Subcutaneous Adipose Tissue and Metabolic Syndrome in a Korean Population

OBJECTIVE This study aimed to assess the correlation between abdominal subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) and metabolic syndrome (MetS) in Korean adults after adjusting for the effects of visceral adipose tissue (VAT). RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS The SAT/VAT ratio (SVR) was calculated using abdominal computed tomography in 2,655 subjects. We used regression analyses to assess whether the SVR p...

Interindividual variation in abdominal subcutaneous and visceral adipose tissue: influence of measurement site.

We evaluated the influence of measurement site on the ranking (low to high) of abdominal subcutaneous (SAT) and visceral (VAT) adipose tissue. We also determined the influence of measurement site on the prediction of abdominal SAT and VAT mass. The subjects included 100 men with computed tomography (CT) measurements at L4-L5 and L3-L4 levels and 100 men with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) mea...

Hypertrophic Obesity and Subcutaneous Adipose Tissue Dysfunction

B ACKGROUND: Over the past 50 years, scientists have recognized that not all adipose tissue is alike, and that health risk is associated with the location as well as the amount of body fat. Different depots are suficiently distinct with respect to fatty-acid storage and release as to probably play unique roles in human physiology. Whether fat redistribution causes metabolic disease or whether i...
